A 62-year-old man hired over the Internet by a family looking for a nanny was sentenced to life in prison after he pleaded guilty to molesting a child.

William James Ransberger was arrested Feb. 17 and pleaded no contest Thursday to four counts of capital sexual battery and a fifth count of lewd and lascivious molestation before Circuit Judge Gary Bergosh.

Bergosh sentenced him to life in prison. He was designated a sexual predator.

A Santa Rosa County family hired Ransberger to work as a nanny from an ad posted on the classified Web site Craigslist.

Ransberger gave a false name of James Thomas Robinson.

As the investigation continued, authorities learned that Ransberger had molested a child he was caring for on more than one occasion between May 1, 2009 and Feb. 17, 2010, according to a press release from the State Attorney's Office.

The investigation also uncovered that Ransberger had a history of sex offenses in California.
